The Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting is always a time of groundbreaking discussions and significant networking in the field of transportation. This year was no different, especially for those of us involved in the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Committee. We are excited to share some of the special moments captured during the event!
One of the highlights of the ITS Committee meeting was recognizing the achievements of our peers:
Best Student Paper Award: Yang Liu for the paper, “Emergency Vehicles Trajectory Planning on Urban Roads within Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Environment.”

Best Paper Award: To the team Angeli Jayme, Berkan Usta, Breton Johnson, Divyakant Tahlyan, Hani Mahmassani, Imad L. Al-Qadi, and Nadim Hamad for their work on “A Systematic Approach to Evaluate the State of Illinois’ Preparedness for Smart Mobility.”

Chairman’s Award: Hany Hassan for his exceptional service and leadership as the Chair of the Paper Review Team of TRB Intelligent Transportation Systems Committee.

We also had discussions on various topics shaping the future of transportation. These conversations opened new avenues for research and partnerships, strengthening our commitment to advancing intelligent transportation systems.
This year, the ITS ACP 15 committee reviewed a total of 33 papers. Considering the reviewers’ comments and recommendations, 15 papers (46%) were rejected, 14 papers (42%) were accepted for presentation only, and 4 papers (12%) were accepted for presentation and for further editorial board review. We would like to thank again all our committee members and friends who volunteered to review papers this year. We are looking forward for more involvement from our committee members and friends in reviewing papers for the ITS ACP15 committee in August 2024. Please note that the paper awards will continue annually.
Stay tuned as we prepare to upload the meeting notes and presentations in the coming weeks. These resources will provide valuable insights and reflections on the discussions and findings from the event.
Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making the ITS Committee meeting a success. Your engagement and enthusiasm continue to drive our committee forward. We are already looking forward to next year’s meeting with great anticipation!
